Advisory for growth

Business growth advice for Irish owners turning over €1m to €10m.

Tommy Boyle has worked with over 200 Irish companies since 1995, from small practices to large distributors. Over 30 years advising owners in every sector in Ireland. You deal with Tommy directly.

Most businesses between €1m and €10m stall for three or four reasons, and rarely the ones the owner talks about. The work starts by naming them in your own figures, then deciding what changes first.

What does growth advisory with Business Answers involve

It begins with a free 30 minute introductory call. If it is a fit, Tommy sets out what the work would look like: an honest read on where the business is, the constraints capping its current size, and what to change first across strategy, structure, sales, pricing, gross margin, cash, team and your own role. Some owners take a short focused piece of work, others stay with it over a longer stretch. Nothing is fixed before that call.

When owners get in touch

Owners usually come to us when one of these is true

None of it means the business is in trouble. It usually means it has outgrown the way it is being run.

  • Turnover keeps climbing and the profit does not move with it.

  • Sales are still whatever you brought in yourself this month.

  • Every decision of any size waits for you to be free.

  • Gross margin is being watched, but not managed hard enough.

  • Growth is eating cash faster than you expected.

  • The management rhythm is too loose for the next stage.

How the ceiling works

Turnover keeps climbing. Profit flattens where the constraints sit.

The dotted line is the business running the same way at a bigger size. The solid line is what changes when pricing, sales, team and your own role are dealt with in order.

The work

How the work runs

Confidential, one to one, and built around your figures rather than a fixed programme.

  1. 01

    A free 30 minute call

You describe where the business is and what is sitting on your desk. Tommy tells you straight whether this is work he can help with.

  2. 02

    An honest read

The first proper session gets a read on where the business really is, using your own numbers rather than impressions, and names what to deal with first.

  3. 03

    The work itself

Sessions of 60 to 90 minutes, one to one, with clear actions and who does what by when. Shaped around strategy, structure, sales, gross margin, cash, team and your own role.

  4. 04

As long as it is useful

A short focused piece of work for some owners, a longer stretch for others. No retainer is assumed before the first call.

What gets worked on

The ground this work usually covers

  • Pricing and margin, and how to reset both without losing customers
  • Cash through growth, and why fast growth eats it
  • A sales pipeline that does not depend on the owner
  • A management rhythm that keeps the right people focused on the right numbers
  • The team question, who carries the next stage and who does not
  • Your own role, moving from doing the work to leading the people who do it

Who it is not for

  • Pre-revenue start-ups and side projects
  • Founders looking for investment rather than advice
  • Anyone after motivation rather than specifics

If you are unsure, say so on the free call. Tommy will tell you plainly either way.

Not ready for a full engagement yet

Start with the Scaling Up session instead.

If you are not ready to start a full piece of work, the live session is the smaller way in. Two hours with nineteen other owners at the same stage, then a private half hour on your own figures. One price, nothing sold to you on the call.

See the Scaling Up session
  • The real constraints holding your business back, named and ranked, not the ones you assumed.
  • A working approach to price, margin and cash that holds as the business grows.
  • An honest read on whether your current team, structure and systems can carry the next stage.

In their words

What owners say about the work

Recommendations written on LinkedIn by people Tommy has worked for and with.

Brave enough to say what nobody else in the room is willing to say.

Tommy is an indispensable business advisor. He brings a refreshing no-nonsense approach and is brave enough to say what nobody else in the room is willing to say, but could be the most important thing that needs to be said. He can instantly move from a broad, macro approach on sales and marketing strategy, to giving excellent guidance on the nitty gritty and spotting a small, but critical detail on a financial report. Before working with Tommy a friend said to me, if you don't have Tommy advising your business, you're losing out. He is highly insightful and has an ability to quickly get to the crux of the issue. Very highly recommended. The proof is in the pudding and Tommy was instrumental in helping to more than double the level of business.

FAQ

Questions owners ask before getting in touch

What size of business does Tommy work with
Trading Irish businesses turning over roughly €1m to €10m, profitable or close to it, in any sector. Below that the constraint is usually finding demand rather than structure, pricing and leadership.
How much does growth advisory cost
Fees depend on the shape of the work and are confirmed before anything is booked. The introductory 30 minute call is free. The Scaling Up live session is €299 plus VAT and includes a private 30 minute one to one.
Is there a minimum commitment
No. Nothing rolls on by default. Some owners take a single focused piece of work, others keep the sessions going over a longer stretch because it is useful.
How is this different from the Scaling Up course
The course is one two hour live session for twenty owners, plus a private half hour, at a fixed price. Advisory is ongoing confidential work built entirely around your business. Many owners start with the course and move to advisory afterwards.
Where does the work happen
Sessions run by video call, so owners work with Tommy from anywhere in Ireland. On-site work is possible where it makes sense.
